Sanctify My Daily Walk — Week 2
By Peggy Land, wife of Dr. Steven J. Land, President of the Church of God Theological Seminary

“I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one.  They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth” (John 17:15-17, NASB).

Just before the betrayal of Christ, He prayed this prayer for His disciples and “for those also who believe in Me through their word” (John 17:20, NASB).  Knowing His time was short upon the earth, He asked that we be kept in the world but kept from the evil one.  Reminding us that we also are not of this world, He asks that we be sanctified.  How can it be?  “In the truth!  In the truth of Thy word.”

Jesus knows about the world.  He lived and suffered in it.  Jesus knows about the evil one.  He was tempted by him but did not sin.  Jesus knows about being set apart unto the Father to live holy.  He calls us to be sanctified daily unto lives of holiness.

Thank the Lord for His sanctifying power.  Thank the Lord for the truth of God’s Word ordering our Christian walk.  Thank the Lord for salvation, sanctification and the Holy Spirit infilling.  Thank the Lord for His example unto us to keep walking uprightly, to keep seeking, to keep being filled.

The question is asked, “Is there anything too hard for God?”  The scripture answers, “No!”  So the encouraging testimonies of those having experienced the miraculous sanctifying power of Christ are in harmony with His Word.

A precious woman gave her heart to Christ and brought her family to church.  She shared with others about her changed life, but she confessed her desire to smoke was overwhelming.  The pastor encouraged her to come faithfully to the house of the Lord, assuring her that prayers petitioning the Lord to take the desire away would be offered.  She testified to the following:  “I laid the pack of cigarettes on the mantel after we prayed.  Praise the Lord!  The desire as well as the cigarettes are gone!”

Consider the faithfulness of our heavenly Father.  Are you struggling with an overwhelming habit?  Ask Him to take away any desire that hinders you from having Him as your first love.  He is more than able.  Are you willing?  Pray with me the words of the song, “Cleanse Me” (Edwin Orr and John McNeill), and be blessed in His cleansing power today.

Search me, O God,
And know my heart today;
Try me, O Savior,
Know my thoughts, I pray.
See if there be
Some wicked way in me;
Cleanse me from every sin
And set me free.

Lord, take my life,
And make it wholly Thine;
Fill my poor heart
With Thy great love divine.
Take all my will,
My passion, self and pride;
I now surrender, Lord
In me abide.
