The Wonder of God — Week 4
By Pam Brewer, State Women’s Ministries President, Oklahoma
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 16:25-33
“For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place. Ascribe to the Lord, O families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name. Bring an offering and come before him; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns!’ Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! Then the trees of the forest will sing, they will sing for joy before the Lord. . . .”
Our Lord is wonderful not only in His power and wisdom, but also in His great mercy and unfathomable love. He is truly a WONDERFUL God! The great writer, Charles H. Spurgeon said, “I know my words cannot honor Him according to His merits: I wish they could. Indeed, I grow less and less satisfied with my thoughts and language concerning Him. He is too glorious for my feeble language to describe Him. If I could speak with the tongues of men and of angels, I could not speak worthily of Him. If I could borrow all the harmonies of heaven, and enlist every harp and song of the glorified, yet were not the music sweet enough for His praises. Our glorious Redeemer is ever blessed: let us bless Him.”
When I first got saved at thirteen years old, I wanted to know who Jesus was and what He said. I took the Bible and read through all of the red-lettered words. Now they have a book entitled The Words of Jesus that Axios Press published in 1998. Even after having read His Word many times over through the years, I find that I am still discovering the wonder of God and His majesty. One of the most amazing aspects of God is that to know Him, we just call upon Him, ask Him to forgive us of our sins and confess Him as our Savior.
My mother just passed away December 6, 2006. When her pastor spoke to me upon my arrival at the funeral home, he told me something that I will never forget. He said that in knowing my mother he always heard her calling Him “Jesus.” However, in the last two weeks of her life, as she was lying there in the hospital bed, she started calling Him “Lord.” The Scriptures tell us that we can call Him “Abba-Father”. Today, if you don’t know Him as your Savior, why not call out to Him right now. Another wonder of God is that He is always waiting and we can call upon Him any day, any time. He is as close as the mention of His name.
