Remember Your Jewelry — Week 3
By Alicia Dotson, Pastor’s Wife, Mountain View Church of God, Dallas, Texas

“Does a maiden forget her jewelry? . . .  Yet my people have forgotten me, days without number” (Jeremiah 2:32, NIV).

We women can relate to shopping for the perfect accessory for a particular outfit.  We want to “tie it all together.”  It’s not that we desire to be flashy, just well-appointed.  Vera Wang, a well-known fashion designer, suggests that “one main piece will make an outfit flow.”  One piece.  There you have it from an expert.  The same is true for our spiritual man (woman).  What is missing in our lives so often is God-centeredness.

Jeremiah 2:32 reminds us that God is still calling us to remember Him.  This is a universal struggle:  every era, both genders, every race, all ages.  How could we possibly forget the God who makes our lives flow?  In verse 31 of that same chapter, God’s people say, “We are free to roam; we will come to you no more.”  Yes, God still give us our free will—our choices; but He reminds us in verses 36 and 37 that we will be disappointed in foreign gods.

When we forget God “days without number,” we are filling up our time—our lives—with things that will leave us empty and disappointed.

Thought for the Day:  Lord, thank You for choices and order.  Let us be desperate for You and for Your destiny for our lives.  Teach us to number our days right.
