Chicken Soup — Week 4
By June Robertson, Pastor’s Wife, Riverside Church of God, Fort Worth, Texas

“Delight thyself also in the Lord:  and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart” (Psalm 37:4).

Before I knew about the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books, I had my own chicken soup experience.  In Paris, Texas, where my husband pastored, I was recovering from ovarian cancer surgery.  My daughter, Gina, was with me the day I was to go home from the hospital.  She wanted to know what she could cook for dinner.  The homemade chicken vegetable soup my mother often made sounded really good to me.

Shortly after Gina got to our home, one of our members called and said that she was preparing dinner for our family that evening.  That was okay with me, and we would have the soup later.  She was an excellent cook, and we looked forward to the delicious meal she would bring.

When she arrived later in the evening, she apologized as she came in.  She had cooked a beef roast, but felt it was not tender enough, so she brought a large pot of “chicken vegetable soup” she had prepared for her family.

I smiled with joy.  God knew I really wanted chicken soup!  Was it a coincidence?  Not to me.  It let me know that God was concerned about even the smallest wishes that I had.

Thought for the Day:  God is interested in the small things in our lives.
