A Healthy Start

A program idea for the month of January.

Scripture: “Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones” (Proverbs 3:7, 8).

Favors: Step counting pedometer, head or wrist bands, small towels or small barbells.

Decorations:
#1 — Create centerpieces or focal points from fresh fruits and/or vegetables.

#2 — Drape a jump rope down the center of your table. Place a small basket in the middle of the table and fill it with a towel, water bottles, head or wrist bands. Also include books on healthy eating and exercise, a variety of small exercise items and exercise videos. You may wish to bring exercise equipment and place it around the room, such as exercise balls, step benches and mats.

Menu: Salad bar, baked potato bar and homemade soup.

Program Ideas: Have a fitness instructor come and address your ladies on low impact methods of exercise. Invite a doctor, nurse, nutritionist or personal trainer to discuss the benefits of exercise and eating healthy.

Activity: Scriptural Push Ups — Use the following verses to have an old-fashioned Bible drill. Make sure each person has a Bible. State the verse of Scripture and the first to find and read the verse wins that round. (If you have a lot of new Christians who aren’t as familiar with the Bible, assign each person a verse and have her look it up and read it as part of the program.)

1 Timothy 4:8 Romans 6:12 1 Corinthians 6:18
1 Corinthians 6:19 1 Corinthians 6:20 1 Corinthians 9:27
Luke 12:23 Philippians 1:20 James 3:2

Optional: The dress code for this event might be exercise clothing such as warm-up suits, wind suits, sweat pants and shirts. Don’t forget the tennis shoes.
