“I Love You Mom” Message Board
Moms enjoy gifts that remind them of the one’s they love. Pictures, poems, colored drawings, and family newspaper clippings are just a few of the things that will bring a smile to mom’s face. Displaying them for all to see is a great idea for this Mother’s Day.
Supplies Needed:
1. Sheet of Styrofoam ¾ to 1 inch thick. You can make the message board as large or as small as you would like.
2. Hot Glue Gun/glue sticks.
3. Fabric. Pick something with your mother’s favorite colors or flowers such as roses or daisies.
4. Ribbon that matches your fabric. The amount needed will depend on the size of the message board you choose to make.
5. Ruler
6. Sharp knife
7. Scissors
8. Silk flowers, buttons, or bows. These can be glued at some of the intersections of the ribbon for a little extra touch.
Directions:
With a sharp knife, cut the sheet of Styrofoam to the desired size. Cut your fabric 3 to 4 inches larger than your Styrofoam on all sides. Lay your fabric, right side down, on a table or other surface. Center the Styrofoam on top of the fabric and glue on all sides, pulling tight. Imagine you are wrapping a gift. Well, I guess you really are! You may need to let the glue dry on each side before continuing in order to be able to pull it tight. You want the front to be as smooth as possible.
Next, add the ribbon in any design you wish. To make it a little easier, you may want to make a grid pattern, spacing your ribbon a few inches apart. You can hot glue flowers or button on tack and place them at ribbon intersections for a little extra decoration.
Place your pictures and other treasures under the ribbon. No tacks needed.
Your message board can be mounted on the wall by pressing the Styrofoam onto a nail or screw. Happy Mother’s Day!
