Prison Ministry
Millions serve time in prison and jails in our country. Many of
these inmates are women from all walks of life—rich, poor,
young, old. Reaching them requires the efforts of concerned Christian
women who, guided by their pastor and the Holy Spirit, will find
a way to deliver the message of love and hope.
Telephone Ministry
Telephone ministry is a two-fold blessing. For the person who
is sick, discouraged, lonely and neglected, it is a blessing
to receive a call. For those who are unable to get out to visit,
phoning others is a ministry. A telephone call can do the following:
-
Help eliminate doubt and restore faith.
-
Let the suffering know
someone cares and make their pain a little easier to bear.
-
Be the
stimulus that will bring the discouraged to the next church service.
-
Let
the new convert know that her "new” family welcomes
her as a member.
-
Express appreciation to those serving the church
faithfully and commendably.
C.O.P.E. (Christ Offering Peace and Encouragement) — Breast Cancer Support Group
The anxiety, fear and apprehension each woman faces when confronted with a breast lump is well documented. In order to cope with the trauma of this disease, many women need to turn to others who have undergone surgery and follow-up treatment for breast cancer.
International Women’s Ministries supports and endorses the local C.O.P.E. support group. If you would like information on starting a support group in your area, please contact : Colene Mercer at: cmercer@churchofgod.cc.
Protection from Pornography Week
(Last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November)
Pornography is a multi-billion-dollar-per-year business. Its victims
are mostly women and children. Christians must be a force for righteousness
on this issue. Observe Protection from Pornography Week by educating
others, and encouraging law-enforcement agencies to enforce laws
against obscenities. Participate in a "white ribbon” campaign
by tying white ribbons in visible areas. For more information and
resource materials, contact Morality in Media, www.moralityinmedia.org,
475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY, 10115, Phone 212-870-3222; or "Enough
Is Enough” Campaign, P.O. Box 888, Fairfax, VA, 22030, phone:
703-278-8343.
International Women’s Ministries also supports NCPCF (The
National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families).
NCPCF is dedicated to protecting people from the harms of pornography.
NCPCF promotes responsibility and enforcement of laws against pornography
and obscenity. You may contact them by e-mail at www.nationalcoalition.org.

April is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The suggested observance includes reading the Resolution on Family/Domestic
Violence adopted by the General Assembly in 1994 in a Sunday
morning service. In addition, observance should include the wearing
and displaying of black ribbons. The black ribbon signifies our
sorrow as a result of the fact that abuse is often kept a deep,
dark secret.
The Department of Women’s Ministries has produced a video
against abuse titled Silent Suffering . . . Silent Shame.
Our goal is to raise awareness, encourage Christians to recognize
the fact that abuse does happen in the Christian community and
challenge them to be sensitive to the cries for help, minister
to individuals with a caring spirit—offering God’s
love, and tell them where they can get professional help.
The video, Silent Suffering . . . Silent Shame, may be purchased
from the Department of Women’s Ministries for $14.95.
