Medical Missions Ministry in Argentina

Dr Silvina González just returned from a medical missions trip to Jujuy and Tucuman, two provinces north of Argentina in South America. Here is her story:

Jujuy

Most of my time in Jujuy was spent in a city named San Pedro de Jujuy. I spent my time preaching, teaching the Bible, and providing medical assistance in needy neighborhoods. I observed much necessity in poor areas of the city called “asentamientos” or settlements, where the people build their precarious houses with sheets and sticks, forming communities of 6,000 people.

In addition to other activities, we did evangelistic work with the children, where I discovered a new ministry, the ministry of inflating balloons, of which we inflated more than 250.

I was able to provide support to the pastors of the city of San Pedro, staying with the pastor of the Church of God, Luis Lopez and his wife, Gladis. It is a growing church in a needy community of San Pedro and one of the oldest cities. These pastors need much assistance, since they are building a church with much sacrifice by selling “empanadas.” They are expanding their church building because the congregation no longer fits in their current building and have to hear the services from the windows or the street.

In a future trip, I will accompany Pastor Lopez to the mountains, where there are various Churches of God at an altitude of over 4,000 meters. You can only reach these churches on foot by walking 4 or 5 hours going up and down mountains.

I also joined various other pastors in San Pedro, among them, Pastor Renato Perez and his wife, Cecilia, from Mensaje de Paz y de Vida Church, Pastor Oscar Valencia and his wife, Alejandra, from the Baptist Church, Pastor Ugarte and his wife, Yolanda, from Church Maranatha, Pastor Javier Echazu and his wife, Marcela, from Eloim Church, and Pastor Julio Iriarte of the Assemblies of God and pastors of other denominations.

Pastor Renato Perez is working on the red zone in the city of San Pedro (the zone of prostitution, alcoholism and drugs) where worship of the occult is great, but greater is our Lord Jesus Christ. He also has a church in the settlement, in which we provided medical assistance.

The capital of Jujuy is San Salvador de Jujuy that is situated 60 kilometers from San Pedro. There, we were reunited with Pastor Iriarte and a group of medical doctors from the city, among them ophthalmologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists and general physicians, where we were able to share the Word of God and speak about the integration of medical ministry and social assistance. My desire is to return to Jujuy with a medical missions group to provide assistance to said pastors in San Pedro providing medical assistance and preaching about Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Tucuman

I was also in the Province of Tucuman, located northeast of Argentina with the supervisor of the area, Rev. Demetrio Robeff and his wife, Gina. I was able to see Foundation “Mana” located in the city of San Miguel of Tucuman. This foundation consists of outreaches such as a home of refuge for mothers and children that are treated at the pediatric hospital of the city who don’t have anywhere to go while they are undergoing treatment. The director of Foundation Mana is Prof. Pedro Hernández, and his Web site is: www.fundacionmana.com. Foundation Mana is in need of our support and prayers.

I was able to visit the Hospital del Niño Jesús or the Hospital of the Child Jesús, in San Miguel de Tucuman, and speak with the director as well as the wife of the Governor of Tucuman and become aware of part of the needs of the Province of Tucuman. We will also return there with missionary doctors and brethren that desire to bless those places.

I have planned various medical ministerial trips for 2006, among them returning to the north of Argentina to help our pastors and brethren there. The Northwest Overseer is Rev. Demetrio Robeff, and the National Overseer from Argentina is Rev. Ruben Salomone.

I will continue doing medical missions integrating medicine and ministry and supporting our pastors in the missions field. Thanks for your love, prayers and support. I love you greatly.
