World News: Guatemala and Honduras Dr. Silvina Gonzalez made a visit to Guatemala and Honduras in Central America. Here is her story in English, followed by Spanish. Ministry and Medical Missions in Central America: Guatemala and Honduras I returned from a medical missions ministry trip to Central America for the first time, visiting Guatemala and Honduras.
I was able to attend the South American Holy Convocation organized by the Director for South America, Reverend Victor Pagan, in Guatemala City. Also, I was able to attend the III Latin American Educators and Leaders Fellowship Conference held in Guatemala City. I was able to share with leaders and educators from all Latin America and the USA; it was a great blessing for all. I visited the cities of Guatemala, Antigua, Quetzaltenango and Almolonga. In Almolonga, I saw God’s blessing upon the land and the people; I was impressed at the market when I took in my hand the biggest carrots that I had ever seen. At the same time, I was able to visit Casa Shalom, the children’s home founded by Dr. Rick and Janice Waldrop. After that, I traveled to El Peten in North Guatemala along with that area’s overseer Reverend Jose Estuardo Clara Vera and his wife Mirza. I was able to preach to pastors in the territory and visit several churches as well as a youth retreat called, “A Stop to Sin” which had a great impact in San Benito, El Peten. The more than 175 pastors in El Peten touched my heart. Many of them are in remote places and they do not have the resources for food, clothes and medical assistance. They are our Church of God pastors. I will return there to support our pastors in El Peten with medical assistance and social help.
From Guatemala, I traveled to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I was there with Dr. Roman Cruz and his wife Elsa. They pastor the Nueva Vida Church in San Pedro Sula and at the same time, Dr. Roman Cruz is the National Director of the Christian Social Ministry. This social ministry is carrying out a great work in Honduras. Getting medical care at the public hospitals is not easy and the Christian Social Ministry is developing Church of God Christian Medical Clinics in remote and needy areas in Honduras, giving free medical care to Honduran pastors. God moved my heart there as well because many of the pastors’ children are malnourished and cannot attend school to learn how to read and write because they have no uniforms or school supplies. Pastoral families have an average of five children so it is very difficult to get them elementary education. We should help our pastors and their families in Honduras with medicine, education, food and support the Christian Social Ministry that is already helping pastoral families with medical care and nutrition as well as school supplies. In Honduras, I offered medical care in several places such as Chamalecon, in San Pedro Sula and a place called Casa Quemada. I was there with a missions team from Good Shepherd Church of God in Pahokee, FL, pastored by Reverend James Brewer and his wife Lola. They went to build a church in Casa Quemada pastored by Edgardo Caceres. One of the days I was there I gave medical care to 83 patients, both adults and children, referring about 35 to the Christian Medical Clinic in San Pedro Sula. There is a great need and poverty but we are glad that we were able to reach them with the Gospel of Christ and medical and social assistance.
I was able to visit El Paraiso, Copan, Olanchito, Tela, La Ceiba, Puerto Cortez, Omoa and Tegucigalpa, Hondura’s capital. All of these places have Church of God Christian Medical Clinics that through a great deal of sacrifice and prayer are reaching needy people with the message of Jesus Christ. I have several trips planned for 2008; thanks for your prayers and support; and thanks for being a part of Medical Missions in Latin America. I will continue to preach Jesus Christ integrating medical assistance, social help, theological education and evangelism to continue to offer the love of God to needy people as well as helping our pastors in the mission field. Ministerio y Misiones Medicas en Centro America: Guatemala y Honduras Regrese de un viaje medico misionero y ministerial, por primera vez a Centro America visitando los paises de Guatemala y Honduras.
Pude participar de la santa convocación Sudamericana organizada por el Director de Sudamerica el Rev Victor Pagan en la ciudad de Guatemala. A su vez en dicho pais, pude participar de la III conferencia de la Fraternidad Iberoamericana de Educadores y Lideres que se realizo en la ciudad de Guatemala, alli pude compartir con lideres, y educadores de toda Latinoamérica y USA, fue de tremenda bendicion para todos. Visite las ciudades de Guatemala, Antigua, Quetzaltenango, y Almolonga. En Almolonga pude ver la bendicion de Dios en la tierra y en su gente, ya que quede impresionada en el mercado, tomando en mis manos zanahorias bien grandes como nunca antes habia visto!! A su vez pudimos visitar Casa Shalom el hogar de ninos fundado por el Dr Rick y Janice Waldrop. Luego de esto, viaje a El Peten en el norte de Guatemala junto al supervisor de esa area el Rev Jose Estuardo Clara Vela y su esposa Mirza. Pude predicar a los pastores y pastoras del territorio, y estar en varias iglesias asi como estar en un retiro juvenil llamado “Stop al pecado” que fue de gran impacto en la ciudad de San Benito en El Peten. Me han conmovido nuestros pastores en El Peten. Ellos son mas de 175 pastores y pastoras. Muchos de ellos estan en lugares apartados, y no tienen muchos recursos financieros para alimentarse, vestirse y tener asistencia medica. Son nuestros pastores de la Iglesia de Dios. Volvere si Dios quiere a dicho lugar, a apoyar a nuestros pastores y pastoras en El Peten, a los cuales les daremos asistencia medica, y ayuda social.
De Guatemala viaje a Honduras a la ciudad de San Pedro Sula. Alli estuve con el Dr Roman Cruz y su esposa Elsa. Ellos pastorean la Iglesia Nueva Vida en San Pedro Sula, y a su vez, el Dr Roman Cruz es el Director Nacional del Ministerio Social Cristiano. Es tremenda la labor que este ministerio social esta realizando en Honduras. Alli no es facil tener asistencia medica por parte de los hospitales publicos, y el Ministerio Social Cristiano se esta desarrollando en Clinicas Medicas Cristianas de la Iglesia de Dios en lugares apartados y carenciados de Honduras, dando asistencia medica gratuita a los pastores hondurenos. Dios conmovio mi corazon alli tambien, porque los hijos de los pastores muchos de ellos estan desnutridos, y no pueden asistir a la escuela a aprender a leer y escribir, porque no tienen uniformes y utiles escolares para ir a la escuela. Las familias pastorales poseen como promedio cinco hijos, asi que es muy difícil la educación primaria para ellos. Debemos ayudar a nuestros pastores en Honduras y a sus familias con medicina, educación y alimentos y apoyar al Ministerio Social Cristiano ya que esta dando ayuda a las familias pastorales en asistencia medica y nutricion asi como utliles escolares. En Honduras estuve haciendo asistencia medica en varios lugares como en Chamalecon en San Pedro Sula, y en un lugar llamado Casa Quemada. Alli estuve junto al grupo de misiones de la Iglesia Good Shepherd Church of God de Pahokee FL del pastor Rev James Brewer y su esposa Lola. Ellos fueron a construir un templo en Casa Quemada donde pastorea el Pr. Edgardo Caceres Alli uno de los dias puede hacer asistencia medica viendo mas de 83 pacientes entre ninos y adultos, siendo derivados cerca de 35 a la Clinica Medica Cristiana en San Pedro Sula. Hay mucha necesidad y pobreza pero que bueno que podemos llegar a ellos con el evangelio de Cristo, y con ayuda medica y social.
Pude visitar a su vez las ciudades de El Paraíso Copan, Olanchito, Tela, La Ceiba, Puerto Cortez, Omoa, y Tegucigalpa que es la capital de Honduras. En todos estos lugares hay Clinicas Medicas Cristianas de la Iglesia de Dios que con mucho sacrificio y oracion estan llegando a la gente necesitada con el mensaje de Jescucristo. Tengo planificados varios viajes para el 2008, gracias por sus oraciones, apoyo, y gracias por ser parte de las Misiones Medicas en Latinoamérica. Seguiremos predicando a Jesucristo en la integración de la asistencia medica, ayuda social, educación teologica y evangelismo para seguir brindando el amor de Dios a la gente necesitada y apoyando a nuestros pastores en el campo misionero.
